4年生向けミステリー数学：モンスターの取り違え事件

Oh no!! One of Mathhattan's many monsters has been causing "night frights" in the city! They are scaring the people of Mathhattan and the police need our Math Detectives help!! In this super fun mystery, students will solve the clues and cross off the suspects on their list until only one remains. This fun detective story has students read simple words and phrases to match information given with the suspects on the list, so we can know who is the monster that has been causing so much distress in the city!

Students will practice mixed multiplication facts (1-12), multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, multiplying numbers ending in zeroes, multiplication word problems (with a mix of 1-digit to 3-digit numbers), and multiplying with larger numbers (a mix of 3-digit by 1-digit numbers, 2-digit by 2-digit numbers, and 4-digit by 1-digit numbers) as they work through all of the clues for the case. As students answer the questions for the clues, they will cross off suspects that do not match the clues until all five have been completed. 

At the beginning of class, we will have introductions before getting started with the mystery. Then, I will read the background story of what is going on with the monsters in the city of Mathhattan and we will discuss the suspects worksheet that should be printed before class for each student to work on. For each set of clues, I will read the directions, project the math problems onto the classroom screen, and let our Math Detectives get to work! Please be sure that your learner brings some scratch paper and a pencil or a dry erase board and marker to work out their problems. When they answer the problems, they will see letters on the shared screen that will eventually reveal a clue after all problems are solved. As they answer the clues, they will need to cross off suspects from the suspect list. At the end of class, we will go over the correct answers and talk about the characteristics of the monster who was responsible for all of the night frights. 

After class, I will send an award to each student for solving the case and to celebrate what great Math Detectives they were! Now, let's have some FUN learning math!! I look forward to seeing your learners in the classroom!!
