Welcome to second grade math! This is the fourth class in a series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring,) and can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a course covering the first half of second grade. We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. Students will understand fractions to be part of a whole. Students will be able to order fractions with the same denominator or same numerator. Students will be able tell time using analogue clock. Students will be able to calculate time intervals. Students will know when to use am or pm. Students will understand capacity as the amount of liquid a container can hold. Students will learn metric and standard units of capacity. Students will be able to create and interpret picture graphs and bar graphs. Students will understand polygons as a closed shape with straight sides. Students will be able to identify semicircles and quarter circles. Students will be able to identify patterns and fill in missing parts. Students will be able to group solid shapes based on similar characteristics. Students will learn personal responsibility by coming to class prepared each day. Students will learn to raise their hand and take turns speaking. Students will learn to participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners.
