The student will continue to improve and enhance their reading skills, practice addition and subtraction, and be instructed to solve word problems. Students will enhance their problem-solving skills and become more proficient in computational skills. Elementary education strongly focuses on reading, language arts, and number logic. As we learn to read more independently, they will progress in fluency, analysis, and comprehension. Students will begin to be assigned more independent work. In this entire tutoring class, students will learn everything needed to succeed as a first graders. This class will be taught by experienced primary teachers and homeschooled parent. Because Cherry Learning Center is a homeschool learning institution and we take our learner's learning very seriously, you will receive progress reports. We love to have an open community with our teachers and families. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perks of joining this class: ***15% off for siblings ***Learners will have access to all CORE and extracurricular classes for 50% ***Learners will receive FREE 1-on-1 tutoring for the teacher (at parent/students request) ***Students will receive homework and will receive feedback along ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this class, students can access several interactive learning websites such as Lilalo, Epic!, Zearn, NearPod, etc.. Teachers will assign an assignment to your learner throughout the week on the website. These assignments will be done in class with the teacher. Students will be given the proper link to access the class materials during class. We will have fun learning and practicing our motoring movement skills through singing and dancing. Students can work on their social skills by interacting with their classmates. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***It is imperative to note that learners will take 10 minutes in the middle of class. This is considered a "BRAIN BREAK." During our breaks, students can step away from the camera, use the restroom, grab a sip of water, color, chit-chat with their classmates, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reading and Language will cover the following: CVC words Story sequence Phonics Sight Words Vocabulary Learning multiple-meaning words How to write a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end Adding and subtracting Solving more challenging word problems in math Telling time and understanding units of time Using a clock/watch Understanding the various physical and chemical changes in matter Distinguishing between human wants and needs Blend consonant Sounds Read simple stories fluently and independently. Retell the main idea of a story and answer questions about the text. Identify parts of a story or book. Writing: Write from top to bottom, left to right, while using spacing between words. Correctly write 3- 4-letter words and longer words phonetically. Write simple sentences and short stories or paragraphs in chronological order. Language Arts: Use correct capitalization and punctuation. Understand and identify the parts of speech and types of sentences. Identify compound words and distinguish between proper and possessive nouns. Creating a sentence. Math: Read and write numerals to 100 and to count objects to 100 or more Addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers without regrouping, up to 100, using models and algorithms Explore number patterns on a hundred chart and with a calculator Represent numbers on a number line Count and create coin combinations; add and subtract money Identify, sort and classify 2-dimensional shapes Understanding the value of money (begin counting money) Science: Life science (plants, animals, habitats) Classification of animals and different animal habitats Distinguishing between living and nonliving things Earth and space science (solar system and beyond) States of matter (solid, liquid, gas) Type of light energy Social Studies: National Holidays Humans want and needs Our Community Each week, our class will follow a special theme. This will help keep students engaged and make learning more fun. (Each month, parents will receive an update on our learning schedule). *A workbook PDF will be posted in the classroom for students. This will be our learning worksheets for handwriting, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Art. *Please note that we do not have class on significant holidays, this will remind in the class section. Here's the breakdown of our class: Week 1/23: Reading: Main Idea: How to choose the main idea. Math: Number Bonds and Addition Science: Magnets Attraction and Repel Social Studies: Families, jobs, and money Week 1/30: Reading: Main Idea: Identify and describe the main idea of a nonfiction book using the title and illustrations Math: Subtraction Word Problems Science: Sound Waves Social Studies: What is a map and understanding how to read the map. Week 2/6: Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the textual details Math: Decomposition Strategies for Subtraction Science: Objects that are made of one or more materials Social Studies: Maps: Creating a map of our home and neighborhood Week 2/13: Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the title Math: Development of Subtraction Fluency Within 10 Science: Scientific words to describe physical properties Social Studies: Your local neighbors and surrounds Week 2/20: Reading: Plot Unit: 1 Math: Development of Subtraction within 10 Science: Physical properties classification Social Studies: Communities Week 2/27: Reading: Plot Unit: 2 Problem and Solution Math: Development of Subtracton using word problem with in 10 Science: What is Weather Social Studies: What makes our community different? Week 3/6: Reading: Point of View Math: Line plot Science: Water Cycle Social Studies: Citizenship

When we are using scissors, parents are expected to be there to help learners for safety reasons.

PDF will be in the classroom Markers/crayons/color pencils Safety Scissors Handheld dry erase board (can be found at the Dollar Store or Target) Dry Erase marker Folder or Binder (binder would do better) Suggestion: It may be easier to create a daily folder for each day with the materials/worksheets already ready for your learner. You may want to also try colored coded folders for each day; example: Monday-red, Tuesday-blue, Wednesday-green and etc. I try my best each week to let you all know what we are working on each day. If you need any other tips, please let me know. I love to help all of our learners to be organized.
