Students will walk away from this class with a better understanding of how the conventions of writing (both grammar and punctuation) affect their understanding as they read and write. They will be able to identify their mistakes and tendencies in their written work and correct themselves before they ask for help from a peer or a teacher. In turn, this will also help them become better communicators in their own writing.

The weekly topics currently consist of the following, but the list will likely be expanded:

- Complete Sentences
- The Comma
- The Apostrophe
- Question and Exclamation Marks
- Nouns
- Adjectives
- Similes and metaphors
- Quotation Marks
- The Colon
- Active and Passive Voice
- Quick Tips (Much/Many, and I/and me, redundancies, double negatives, etc.)

I have a Bachelor's degree in Film Studies from the University of Calgary, and am currently completing my Bachelor's of Education at St Mary's University in Calgary. All this time in post-secondary has given me plenty of practice with reading, writing, editing, and proofreading essays, projects, and other scholarly work. Reading and writing are two of my lifelong passions. My father is a retired high school ELA teacher, and I thank him for my sharpened sense of grammatical accuracy.

There is no formal assessment, but there will be plenty of opportunities for students to show what they have learned. I highly recommend that learners participate wherever possible, by typing in the chat, or raising their hand to speak.

 We will go through example sentences where learners will spot the mistake, engage with longer passages to identify how the given topic applies in-context, and we will also have the occasional game of Kahoot!
