宿題:
週あたり 1-2 時間. Homework will be assigned at the teacher's discretion for students who are not currently taking classes elsewhere. It will consist of multiple mini-activities structured around the learning goals of each particular class meeting, and should not take more than an hour to complete. Learners are welcome to use their notes to assist in the completion of the homework.テスト
Students will have assessments periodically to test comprehension and understanding if they are not taking classes elsewhere. While structured like a formal assessment, these will not receive a letter grade and will rather be used for both learner and teacher to gauge the student's comfort level and ability with the material.評価

In this 1-on-1 private lesson, students will get personalized assistance with beginner to intermediate Japanese language skills. **This section is meant to allow for scheduling flexibility. Students wishing to learn Japanese will benefit from more than a single class on the subject.** Students can range from no exposure to the language to having experience independently or through structured classes at school. Example topics may include: -learning Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji; recognition, stroke order when writing, pronunciation, etc. -learning to read and write in Japanese; full sentence comprehension, word order, conjugations, etc. -listening comprehension; spoken instructions, conversations, etc. -confidence when speaking; presentation prep, speaking to a native speaker, etc. -pronunciation assistance; phonemic awareness, "r" sounds, etc. -and more. I believe that learning is more fun when the content is taught in a way that is relatable, understandable, and at the appropriate level for the learner. In addition to language instruction, cultural notes will also be included to create a more well-rounded learning experience. Learners may receive additional homework activities that are optional but encouraged to continue practicing between meetings. The topics covered in each week's meetings will vary depending on the student's needs or wants, as well as their level and interests. For students who are not currently taking any Japanese classes, this course will be structured like a private class with leveled materials and a set schedule of topics to cover. For students who are currently taking classes elsewhere, this class will be for tutoring on the topics covered elsewhere, or expanding on those topics to assist with comprehension. The class will be structured so as to move at the pace of the student's learning, either independently with me or within the pacing of their external class. Students will need a working microphone at minimum as speaking will be part of the curriculum. A camera or webcam would also be useful, but not required.
学習到達目標
Students will learn beginner to intermediate Japanese reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This course would be appropriate as a first step towards the JLPT N5 assessment.
その他の情報
受講に必要なもの
Learners should have a pen or pencil and something to write on. A whiteboard would be sufficient for some activities, but for much of the taught material, learners will want to have a more permanent instance of it to refer back to.

Hello! My name is Unity, it's so great to meet you!
I have a BA with majors and minors in English, Asian Studies, Astrophysics, and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. I have an MLitt with Distinction in Scottish Heritage with concentrations in Scottish Literature and Education.
I absolutely love teaching, and much of my volunteer and professional career has been spent working with children in an educational setting. Altogether I have been working as a teacher and tutor for 8 years now, and most recently earned my TEFL Certification to teach English online, as well as completed my IELTS Teacher Training! I have taught classes in English, Literacy and Language Arts, Physics, Geometry, Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Japanese, Women's Studies, Writing, Environmental Science, and more to students of all ages (4-35+).
I believe learning should be fun and exciting and I want to bring that same energy to my classroom. Students should be enthusiastic about the topic and I hope to instill in them the knowledge that making mistakes is part of learning and NOT something to feel ashamed of. My classes are engaging and I strive to make real connections with all of my students. My teaching philosophy is that students will remember the material better, and for longer, if they had fun while learning it!
Literacy is my passion and I am currently working towards my MLIS (Master's of Library and Information Sciences) degree. I find so much joy in fostering and encouraging a love of books and reading in students of all ages. From young learners who benefit from help with phonics and grammar, to older students who love book clubs and learning more about librarianship, getting children excited about reading is what inspires me on a daily basis.
When I'm not teaching or reading, I absolutely love to travel! I studied abroad in Japan, Ireland, and Northern Ireland during my undergraduate program, and have traveled independently to over 10 different countries and islands. I even moved to Scotland and lived there while completing my dissertation! I have a very playful and talkative cat named Emma who loves to cuddle, corydoras catfish, and a beehive that I love.
I am so excited to be here teaching! Hope to see you in my classroom (:
