What will be taught?
---------------------
This tutoring session is for 8th grade math concepts. I will first get to know your child by getting to know their interests, things they like to do, and various ways that they like to learn. Once I know how they like to learn, from there I am able to adapt to their learning style (whether they are more inductive or deductive learners, as well as if they are more auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners).

Depending on your child's learning style, I adapt my concept review and tutoring session to their needs. If they need more visual aids, I use those. If they need more auditory or motion based aids, I use those. But I attempt to adapt each individual tutoring session to the STUDENT!

What topics will you cover?
----------------------------
I can review with students their troubles in the following topical areas (and sub areas):
Numbers and Operations (Fractions, Decimals, Rational, Irrational Numbers, Exponents, Logs, Scientific Notation), etc), Equations with One Unknown, Equations with Two Unknowns (Systems of linear equations), Introduction to Functions, Visualizing (i.e. Plotting and Graphing) Functions and Equations, Probability and Statistics Topics, Geometry Topics, Set Theory and Discrete Math. If there is a topic by name that isn't here, let me know and I can highly likely help them!

How is your class structured?
-----------------------------
Depends on the learner, however generally the time will be allocated thusly:

0min - 10min: Learn about the student's interests, hobbies, what they're struggling in, what they like to do every day. These all help me form a picture of how your child learns.

10min - 35min: Concept Review/Guided Problem Solving - Depending on if they learn more empirically or deductively, I will bring your child through an overview of the math concept(s) that they are struggling with using examples, drawings, diagrams, verbal descriptions, etc. If they learn more inductively, I begin them off with guided problem solving and how we can extract from that "the rule" or "the process".

35min - 60min: Concept Review/Guided Problem Solving - Same as before but in reverse. If I think that your child learns more deductively first, I'll start there and in the last 30 min, we'll more to problem sets. If they learn more inductively, them we'll start with problem sets, and derive and talk about "the rule" here. In other words, the schedule depends on the individual student.

How will you teach?
--------------------
Using a combination of practice problems, visual aids, and my white board table-top at home. No fancy bells and whistles here! Some discussions might be better suited for me to move to virtual notes. However, I by and large stick to "tutoring" over the camera on my table white-board.

What's your teaching style?
----------------------------
I try to keep things light hearted but upbeat. Learning doesn't need to be "boring", but sometimes, it needs to be for our own good. So I try to keep the "boring stuff" to a minimum, and keep student engaged by reading their reactions, facial expressions, and responses to questions. Basically, I try to keep them engaged in the session, but I let them "drift off" if they are having a structured thought. This is important, as then the learning is on "their terms", not mine!

How much will learners get to interact with you (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?
-------------------------------
Again, this is for 1-1 Tutoring for 8th Grade Math. So there is a ton of interaction! The student can ask me any number of questions. I have a basic schedule in place, but it is by no means super rigid. At the end of the day, this tutoring session is for the student. And I want them to decide the level of interaction with their tutor that will help them the most.

学習到達目標

Students in this tutoring session will leave with a more thorough understanding of their troubles in 8th grade math. I ask that parents be as specific as possible about the specific name of the topic that their student is struggling within. This will allow me to spend most of our time crafting the tutoring session to your child's needs.

And as I'm sure every educator will tell the students, I highly recommend meeting at least twice a week (once at the beginning and once at the end). Doing this will allow me to schedule more hand-tailored assignment sets for your student that matches their interests and learning style!

その他の情報

受講の前提条件
I expect the student to have an understanding of Grade 7 Math at a minimum. This means that they should be able to solve problems in fraction operations, integers, negative numbers, relations, rates and percentages, and basic expressions
受講に必要なもの
This is for 1-1 tutoring session. If we meet weekly, then I can provide assignment materials on a weekly basis, each of which is tailored to your child's needs and interests!

I have been tutoring for 21 years since my time in high school. In addition to this, I have tutored students in algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, and beyond. I was also a business analytics professor who was responsible for teaching his own statistics, economics, and his own business calculus courses, all of which use basic algebra!
