Group experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Science is vast, amazing, challenging, and sometimes even a little scary! There is a universe worth of knowledge to gain, and just as much that we do not yet fully understand. This is a supportive, social space for learners to come and enjoy a safe place to discuss their interests and questions about science. We are not limited by topic and will always attempt to bring interesting information from different branches of science such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, physics, and more.

Each week the teacher will post at least one new topic of discussion. These posts might be general science trivia, interesting facts about famous scientists or theories, amazing scientific photography, and much more. There will also be posts showing off interesting new developments and advances in science. Learners are also encouraged to post their own interests and topics of discussion.

This space is meant to be welcoming and engaging for everyone. Every participant will have opportunities to share their interests and engage in discussion. Come show us your favorite scientific drawings or books, Lego space shuttle builds, or just post about something that made you curious that you saw on TV. All topics of conversation are welcome here, as long as every post and interaction is respectful.

This social space is moderated by the teacher. Posts will be made frequently by the teacher to encourage participation, but learners are all encouraged to make their own posts about questions, theories, or any topic they would like to discuss. This Group is a wonderful supplement to my live science courses offered on Outschool. Students can engage on their own time in this social space, and we may bring these topics to live class meetings to discuss them further.
Learning Goals
This is a social environment with the goal of providing a space for learners to interact, think critically, connect, and engage with each other respectfully while sharing the topics of conversation they enjoy, or while learning something entirely new to them.

Guidelines
Welcome to Scientists Social! *New students, please make an introduction post with your name and your favorite branch of science (chemistry, physics, biology, etc.)* We want all of our learners to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful. Be Kind - Help all learners feel welcome and included. Learners from all over the world, with different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, religions and body types, participate in our Group. Always be nice and make others, especially new learners, know that they belong and are welcome. Teasing, name calling, or bullying anybody in our community? Nope. Not happening here Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs. Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other learners or teachers. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private. Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated. Keep language clean and information you share safe. If you wouldn't say it or share with your grandma, don't do it here. Swear words, racy videos, and violent images are not allowed. Treat Outschool like a public place, and when in doubt, keep things covered.
