Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Intermediate Level
As this is a tutoring session, each class in one-on-one and designed to meet the needs of each individual student. My content speciality is social studies and specifically geography. I can help students with class assignments and building study skills. I can answer questions and reteach and clarify concepts you may have missed in the classroom. I can help you study for a test or other, assessments. In our first meeting, we will lay out a plan that identifies needs and how to meet those needs. I have taught world history, world geography, U.S. history, government, sociology, as well as English, literacy and some science and math. Topics from any of these courses would be appropriate to examine in this tutoring session. Ideally, I would like to review with students learning resources that are being used at home or in school. Unlocking some of the learning strategies embedded in content for students can be useful. Also, reading study materials and coaching students is a great way to help students be more active learner. As an inclusion teacher, I learned to how to break down events, topics and concepts to help students better understand content. Often students lack the background story for topics and this can be a barrier to learning. Also, exploring vocabulary connected to a particular topic of area of study is critical for student understanding and also included in most tutoring sessions.
