Welcome to our Level 1 Reading Adventures with Scholastic Hello Readers! This dynamic and engaging course is designed to propel early readers on a literary journey filled with excitement and discovery. Each week, students will focus on a new Scholastic Hello Reader Level 1 book, carefully selected to align with their reading proficiency. The course places a strong emphasis on building a robust foundation in literacy through targeted vocabulary acquisition, phonics skill development, and regular reading practice. Our young learners will be immersed in an interactive and supportive environment, where they not only master essential phonics skills but also expand their vocabulary by exploring diverse themes within the Hello Reader series. Through a variety of activities, students will hone their reading abilities, gaining confidence and fluency as they progress through captivating stories. Join us in this ongoing adventure where the joy of reading meets the thrill of exploration in the world of Scholastic Hello Readers Level 1 books.

The Level 1 books are approximately Kindergarten to First Grade Level. (Guided Reading Level: C-J; Lexile Level: 100L-400L). The Level 1 Hello Readers contain simple words and short sentences for new readers. Learners will encounter frequently used words (sight words) and practice sounding out simple sentences. We will also focus on phonics, grammar, language arts, literacy skills and writing skills. (This class ESL-friendly!)

We have experience working with learners of all abilities, including ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ASD and more. Learners of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join us in class. Please contact us for more information.

This course was created by and used with permission from Ms. Ashley. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. Ms. Ashley currently homeschools all five of her children. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
