US Grade 6 - 8
It's often said that bad examples are the best teaching tools, and this is especially true for writing students. In this ongoing class, students will read examples of "bad" writing and then put their writing and critical thinking skills to the test to turn an error-filled sample into a better piece of writing. Each week, students will proofread a piece of writing for tone, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and clarity. They will then put these edits into practice to rewrite a grammatically correct and tonally consistent piece of writing. If time allows, students will then brainstorm how to make creative changes, including changes to genre, setting, character description, and more! Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional academic and creative writing editor. I have worked on college admissions boards vetting application essays, edited papers for graduate and post-graduate researchers, and have taught Bibliography and humanities research courses. I am a very thorough editor with an eye for correct grammar, tonal and colloquial accuracy (using the correct tone based on the writing task), and fact checking. I focus on teaching students how to effectively edit their own work rather than simply telling them what to change.
