Experiencia de clase

This 4-day class (or summer camp) is an introduction to piano lessons for NEW young beginners. Classes will build on knowledge from one week to the next. Practice between classes is highly recommended. Access to a keyboard/piano and view of the screen while playing is required to participate during class time.

For NEW students, consider starting with the precursor class Pre-reading Piano: Black Key Patterns (Memorized songs.)

NOTE: This is 4-day camp, where students learn cumulatively throughout camp. If you'd like a slower class where new, young beginners may join at any time, please join "Piano Primer I - Part A: Ongoing," enroll here→ https://outschool.com/classes/piano-primer-i-part-a-songs-on-the-black-keys-ongoing-zWUwPn8N

ABOUT THIS CLASS:
I will help propel your learner to the next level with serious music theory disguised as fun games, exciting song-writing activities, and easy tunes. I balance a fun, student-centered approach with more traditional models, often replacing arduous theory worksheets with games. In my music classes, my goal is to build a creative, stress-free environment so that my students enjoy the music-making process.

Lesson Structure:
* A warm-up song & review.
* A music game
* Introduction to a new song (see list below).
* Spend time listening and sharing student performances.
* If time, compose a song as a class or individually.

Day 1. Hot Cross Buns; Rain is Falling Down – LH, RH
Day 2. The Closet Key; Mary had a Little Lamb- LH, RH
Day 3. Pease Porridge; Down by the Station - LH, RH; Hot Cross Buns – HT
Day 4. Gently Sleep; The Long-legged Sailor - LH, RH

Students who have attended all classes (or reviewed the recordings) and practiced well between classes should be ready to begin "Introduction to Piano: My Favorite Songs on the Black Keys 1B." Please contact me if you are unsure of the right level class for your learner.

As a teacher with over twenty years of experience, I have been running my own piano studio full-time for the last decade. I started learning music in piano lessons when I was four years old and am currently teaching my 15th academic year as a piano teacher. I also am a former public school art teacher, university adjunct professor, swim instructor, dance teacher, and math tutor.

The Suzuki method is at the core of many of my ideas about teaching music. Shin’ichi Suzuki believed that music is like a language and therefore should be taught like one-- learning to speak before reading and writing and that learning should take place in a loving and supportive environment, with constant repetition, and with helpful modeling from the parents. Like Montessori, the Suzuki philosophy is student-centered, includes lots of learning games and enjoyable activities, and demands that learning activities be planned according to the student's needs and level of development.
