Try my English Writing Class, featuring personalized 1:1 writing tutoring! It combines essential academic writing mechanics—editing skills, parts of speech (the building blocks of sentences), sentence structure, paragraphs, and much more- with a creative writing flair that students love. These are vital for effective communication in speech, and writing, and will aid in all kinds of writing across the board, in school, the PSAT/SAT, college, resumes, and more. TABLE OF CONTENTS: WHAT SETS THIS CLASS APART? HOW THE CLASS IS STRUCTURED BUNDLES DURATION GOOGLE DOCS AND CANVA HOMEWORK-OPTIONAL WHAT'S INCLUDED? EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS CLASS STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITIES WITH BRIEF SYLLABUS WHAT SETS THIS CLASS APART? Unlike traditional writing classes that separate writing from mechanics, this innovative course blends creative writing with essential rules of grammar and structure. The same rules apply to all kinds of writing, not just academic essays. Kids tend to dislike writing essays. Much of the final result deals with the grammar and punctuation of the writing piece. This class combines writing they love and the rules that will get them through school, and later with the SAT, all life writing endeavors. Not only that, students engage in interactive and gamified activities that make it extra fun. I also sneak in bits of essay writing here and there or maybe a poem and more. No ordinary, boring worksheets here. HOW THE CLASS IS STRUCTURED: Each session starts with a focused lesson, followed by interactive and gamified activities in the free version of Canva. This includes board games, puzzles, escape rooms, and interactive worksheets that practice the topic. Even a boring worksheet can be made fun in Canva. Then, they complete it with a writing assignment, for which I work with them to write correctly based on the lesson. BUNDLES: I had this class in one class, then bundled it and divided it up. It's not better. I am going back to the old way, but making it even better. DURATION: Each lesson is at the student's pace. Some take part in a class to finish the activities, write, and they are close to finished by end of class. Some take longer. We work as needed. It doesn't help them understand if it's rushed. The class keeps going. Know that even though this is tutoring, I follow a curriculum. I cover many writing and grammar topics and their importance in writing and speech, ensuring students gain the skills needed for success in school and beyond. This class is designed to fill the gaps often left by traditional education and it will also begin to prepare them for the PSAT and SAT in a few years. You are welcome to let me know what you think they need help in, but it's my class. I will take this into account. Just know if you want them to have help writing paragraphs, they may need to learn other things first in order for that to work. Writing a paragraph involves knowing correct punctuation, parts of speech and how are used in sentences, for example. If a student knows a topic well, I can skip ahead. I will know if that is the case. GOOGLE DOCS AND CANVA: Students will collaborate in Google Docs for writing assignments and in Canva for the activities, both with real-time feedback. HOMEWORK: Homework is optional. This means that they may work on their writing at home if the parent wishes. It could reduce your time in class and allow them to happen more quickly They can also do all of it in class, and that is fine. WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED? Personalized feedback and support anytime the parent would like. Online sticker sheet and completion certificates for motivation.
