Join us for an exhilarating journey into math concepts and programming as we create a Minecraft-themed scrolling platformer game where a player jumps into the world of Minecraft designed by your own child! This intermediate-level class is designed for young coders who want to delve deeper into the magic of coding in the Minecraft universe. About the Class: Coding is not only fun, but it's also a gateway to understanding various math concepts. In this class, coders will channel their enthusiasm for Scratch platformers into crafting their very own Minecraft-themed scrolling platformer game. Get ready to code gravity, master wall detection, explore functions, and use broadcast blocks to bring the Minecraft world to life. 👩💻👨🏿💻 Syllabus: 📆 Day #1: Make a Basic Platformer Game Introduction to the Scratch platformer template Coding essential mechanics: player movement, jump, and landing 📆 Day #2: Add Levels for Your Game Exploring level design principles Implementing multiple levels with unique challenges 📆 Day #3: Add Powerups and Enemies Coding power-up functionalities for an enhanced gaming experience Creating dynamic enemies and obstacles inspired by the Minecraft universe 📆 Day #4: Add Special Effects/Debugging and Testing Implementing special effects to elevate the gaming experience In-depth debugging and testing for a seamless gameplay 📖 Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, young coders will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the following coding concepts: 1. Event and motion blocks 2. Various types of Loops 3. Understands that with the loop function, fewer blocks are needed to achieve the same goal Uses repeat, loop, nested loop functions to reach a goal 4. If and sensing blocks 5. Writing code 6. Debugging code by fixing a sequence of code of adding missing code. 7. Making a cohesive game design. 🌟IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. This will be a challenging class for coders with no experience. 2. Coders MUST have experience on Scratch having taken my (or other) basic and intermediate level Scratch courses. 3. This class requires that all students have an account on Scratch with sharing ability. Please make sure that your child's account is verified prior to our first class. 4. Students will need two devices. One will be used to view the class on Outschool and the other device will be needed to code. The second device must have a keyboard. 5. In order to keep the pace of the class, students must be on time every day. If we are too far ahead when a student enters, we may ask the student to stay as an observer and watch the video recording after class. 6. Teachers are not able to answer parent's questions via messages while teaching. Thanks for understanding.
