Advanced Vocabulary Booster for Ages 11-16

A wide-ranging vocabulary is powerful! It strengthens communication skills, boosts reading comprehension, enhances critical thinking abilities, and improves test scores. 

Engaging with new words can enhance comprehension and confidence. That's why the goal of this weekly class is to go beyond memorizing definitions., in the first part of class, learners will see the words in context through real-world images and sentences.  We will investigate further through learning pronunciation, etymology, synonyms and antonyms, suffixes and prefixes, and part of speech. 

Then, it will be time to put this new knowledge into action. Learners will practice the words by answering questions and typing responses in the chat. For the grand finale, learners will pick their favorite word from the set and use it in their own original sentence, which they can type in the chat and read aloud if they wish.

We will have a new set of ten words every week. Words will be posted in the classroom at the beginning of the week. A weekly Quizlet will also be available for students wanting more independent practice.

To give you an idea of the words in this class, this is an example of a vocabulary set:
incongruous, chagrin, fortitude, antipathy, exacerbate, oblivion, tenacious, insidious, besiege, and demeanor.
