Class Experience Beginner to Advanced Level 🪧 This one-on-one English speaking class is perfect for learners looking to improve their English fluency while having fun! We practice speaking in full English sentences, focusing on both American and British English styles. Each session is tailored to the student's level, making the experience engaging and interactive. 📢📢 This class is highly conversation-focused. I use images to stimulate speaking about what students see. It has helped children ages 3 to 18 enhance their vocabulary, use grammar learned in school, and describe what they observe. The vocabulary or grammar used is customized for the learner’s age—older students use more complex vocabulary, while younger learners work on expanding their current vocabulary. We also focus on developing discussion skills like comparing, contrasting, predicting, summarizing, inventing dialogue, and discussing characters. What to Expect: Personalized Topics: Students can suggest topics of interest ahead of time, and I'll tailor the class around them, ensuring students feel confident and prepared. Interactive Activities: Describe and Imagine: Explore vibrant pictures of parks, zoos, or picnics and answer questions like, "What do you see?" or "What might happen next?" Story Creation: Use pictures to narrate creative stories, discussing characters, settings, and events. Spot the Difference: Compare two images and describe the differences in detail. What Happens Next: Predict the next action in an unfinished scene. Picture Comparisons: Discuss similarities and differences between contrasting images (e.g., city vs. village). Character Conversations: Invent dialogues between characters in fun cartoon-style images. Cultural Exploration: Learn about festivals, foods, and landmarks around the world. Bring Props or Pictures: Students can bring toys or images to express ideas. Teacher Support: I use props and images to enhance understanding and encourage detailed speaking. The aim is to help students think critically, answer open-ended questions, and build confidence. Phonics is an approach to teaching reading and writing that involves teaching students the association between sounds and the letters that represent them. My Phonics classes are DfE validated full systematic, synthetic phonics program, a way of teaching the building blocks of the English language. The scheme builds and develops the skills and understanding children need to become effective, independent readers and writers. An extensive library of fully-decodable, diverse & dynamic books are also part of the curriculum. It is designed for native or non-native English speakers.
How is literature used in second language teaching?
Literature can make the teaching of a language more fun. It introduces different parts of grammar and sentences in an interactive way. We can talk about interesting topics, encourage students to express their points of view and introduce in depth and current topics.
