US Grade 1 - 4
In this fun-schooling class, families will need to purchase their own copy of the following: The Thinking Tree Animal Lover's Fun-Schooling Journal Homeschool Curriculum Handbook Journal for Students Majoring in Zoology. Our maximum class size is five so that all students receive a high level of attention and assistance. Please join the wait list if there is not a current opening so I can get your student in soon! Class will meet once weekly with no end date and complete a minimum of two journal pages to include one animal study from the journal, and one math and/or creative writing prompt. Students can read along with me if they are comfortable, receive assistance with spelling, and copy work from my white board, as needed. Concepts are presented with visuals (animal models, math representations, finding habitats on my globe, etc.) wherever possible. All September start dates work from week one as follows: Week 1) Dolphins Week 2) Elephants Week 3) Arctic Seals Week 4) Jaguar Week 5) Pythons Week 6) Opossums Week 7) Chameleons Week 8) Tazmanian Tiger Week 9) Kit Fox Week 10) Bats More added weekly! The journal also contains many other activities that children may work on throughout the week if they'd like (art prompts, video summaries, nature studies, and more). Every student will have the opportunity to share what they know and ask questions. There will be no graded assignments. Homeschoolers, unschoolers, and afterschoolers are all welcomed! This journal will encourage reluctant learners with a passion for animals to sharpen all of their skills especially if they need practice writing or with math word problems, disguised in animal fun. Students are welcome to join the class any time, as each week will be unique!
Learning Goals
Students will gain valuable research and observation skills, improve creative writing, and become more comfortable with math word problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Science
My teaching experience in the life sciences includes ecology, and biology. Before I became a teacher I worked with wildlife, in a microbiology lab, and also in animal welfare. I have always been called to work with children and have volunteered at girl scout camps, zoo camps and children's hospitals. As a teacher on Outschool I am committed to bringing visual and tangible content to the classroom. I believe teaching is more than just a lecture. My students learn best by seeing examples of concepts, and by breaking new content down into manageable pieces. I am always available for questions and support!
