EARLY ELEMENTARY MATH, K LEVEL *** Includes two meetings a week. ** Please see parent guide below This class is live, and students will have opportunities for verbal responses as individuals and as a group. We will cover the typical early elementary school math concepts (Year K in the U. S.), and we will rotate through them, covering one topic each week, using varied approaches, which include: math manipulates, illustrations, simple games, educational apps, and video clips. I also provide a PDF document each week for optional at-home practice. A typical class is in the following format: (1) Welcome to class (2) Introduce the topic using manipulates (3) A short math song video on the topic (usually one to three minutes long) (4) Practice using IXL math: Each student gets a turn, and I also have the students practice reading numerals by reading our score. (5) A game on the topic: I create almost all the games myself, and the students typically enjoy them very much. The second meeting time each week is similar to the first, but we typically have a different math song and different IXL activities. The second meeting is designed to strengthen the students' grasp of the topic The specific learning goals include: * Patterns * Skip counting by 10s * Shapes 2d * Spatial relations (Left, Right, Top, Bottom, Middle etc) * Comparing * Skip counting by 5s * Time * Money (mainly U. S. but I also use samples of coinage from other countries where needed) * Understanding addition * Addition strategies * Measuring linear * Measuring weight * Skip counting 2s * Venn diagrams * Equal parts * Fractions * Shapes 3d * Ordinal numbers * Odd and even numbers * Understanding subtraction * Subtraction strategies * 1-100 chart * Sorting * Tally marks, data, intro to graphing * Predicting & estimating * Place values

Parental Guidance
Sometimes I receive requests to teach this class to four year old children. While I try work with each child at their level, not all four year old children enjoy the developmental pace of the older students in class. Even if a younger child has been introduced to the academic topics previously, they may find that the five/six year old students move and speak a bit more quickly.
Please send me a message if you would like to clarify further.
