So many young violinists focus on the left hand (the violin hand) in their practicing, but it's the bow arm that gives us a truly expressive violin sound. In building our bow technique we can begin to tell a story with our music. In this class, the students will learn 5 steps that they can apply to any music that they're playing to achieve the sound that will best support their expression. Next we will focus on a simple phrase that I'll teach them and use the steps together. Finally, each of them will apply the steps to a passage of their favorite song.
Learning Goals
This is designed to develop the learners' sensitivity to sound and to give them tools that they can apply to any music that they play.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I split my time between performing (violin and viola), teaching, and executive coaching.
Violin: my primary teaching background is Suzuki, but I tend to use a lot of fiddle tunes in my teaching and I have a rigorous note-reading program that I've developed to complement the by-ear learning that we often do on the violin. I see music as an important tool for overall growth. Children learn discipline, how to handle challenges, how to work with others - and of course they get to experience the joy of making music!
Executive coaching: I generally work one-on-one with professionals but have created a curriculum for young people to help them develop skills to thrive in today's challenging world.
I live in the country, and the students will sometimes hear goats or our rooster in the background.
