Beginner - Advanced Level
This will be a weekly class this winter, for 6 weeks. The class is intended for younger kids, to introduce them to the world of drawing and creativity. I have many prepared projects to work on, and we will work on them together during the class. After starting off with step by step instruction, they will have time to experiment with their own individual creations. We will start with basic skills, line, shading, shape making, scribbling and making funny pictures. We will draw funny faces, funny people and wild and different pictures. Here is the weekly program I have prepared: Class 1 - An introduction to extra wild scribbling - our goal is to have fun and learn some basic drawing skills. Our tools - pencils, pens, markers and crayons- scribble and lines, shapes and tones, and using a sketch book. Techniques explored are wildly covering a page with lines and shapes, and finding a shape within our scribbles. Homework - cover a page with scribbles and shapes, the wilder the better.. Class 2- Drawing a Funny Face. We will explore the basic structure of a face, adding features, individualizing and making them completely nuts!. We will draw some familiar funny faces, and make our own funny face. Homework - draw our own funny face Class 3- Drawing people - a simple guides to a drawing a 3 dimensional person, not a stick figure. Then we will add details, making them wild and crazy people, running through the woods! Homework - drawing a funny person Class 4- After drawing people, now we will turn to creating monsters, dragons, unicorns, aliens, and decorative butterflies. We will also start working on dogs, cats, octopus, elephants and sharks, depending on their individual interest.. Homework - Create your own pet monster. Class 5- Drawing places. This includes an introduction to drawing the outside world. We will draw a simple street scene and a landscape with a waterfall, river and trees. Homework - draw a tree with a caterpillar climbing it. Class 6- Wild color projects, including choosing one or more of a Tropical Island, Sunset, Under the Sea, Dinosaur Battle, Sperm Whale vs. Giant Squid, a waterfall from a mountain, or a jungle with huge insects and ferocious animals. Explore things to do in the future. I have samples, props, and projects that will challenge them and should result in imaginative and decorative pictures. Classes will all be live, and feature my personally designed projects that they can use as starting points. I will have a new package of projects that I will post up for easy download every week. Having worked with this age group before, I know they appreciate a guided approach but also can be very independent and have their own ideas. This is a side of them I will always encourage.
Learning Goals
The most important goal is that the students have fun with drawing, enjoy doing it, and while doing it, find a way to express themselves. As the class continues, they will acquire skills that should last and become a part of their developing personalities. Hopefully, they will make pictures that are decorative and they can be personally proud of.

Supply List
I will have weekly packages of learning materials for all learners, hopefully able to easily download and use. Children will need a sketch book, 9X12 is best, inexpensive sketchbooks are available at Art Supply stores, Staples, or on Amazon. Later in the class, they may like some sheets of larger drawing paper. Drawing pencils, a set or a few different types, such as a B, 2B, H and a 2H, also yellow school pencils are good. They should have one or two fine black gel roller pens, such as Pentel, Pilot, Uniball or Bic . We will use a lot of fine color markers, sets are available at Staples or Amazon, an inexpensive set of about 12 colors is good. For younger kids, make sure they are washable! Also a similar set of colored pencils. White erasers, pencil sharpeners and a ruler or T Square are also needed. A set of watercolors is optional. I would estimate a full set of supplies will cost less than $40.00.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Queens College, CUNY
I am a long-standing and exhibited professional artist, who specializes in sketching, printmaking, and computer graphics. I received a Masters of Fine Arts (many years ago), from Queens College in NYC, and taught for many years at the community college level, before (and during) a 41 year career working for Social Security. I have recently taught several kids enrichment classes at a local school district, and summer classes for kids 5-8 and 9-13. This has gone really well and it is what I am focusing on these days. Having 5 little grandkids of my own, I am quite comfortable teaching and relating with kids of that age.
