This class is designed to help young adults who will soon be headed out into the world. I have created slideshows over a handful of topics filled with information gathered form various people who have been there and done that when it comes to living through those first few years after high school. Those years can shape who a person becomes for the rest of their life so come join this class for a little info on how to get started on the right foot. ***CLASS STRUCTURE*** We use slides to guide each class in a smooth and organized way. Each class starts with the Team Meeting and Life Lesson of the Day. You can read more about those on my teaching profile. The Ice Breaker questions change each week and are designed to get the conversation started and students thinking. Each class will have a different slideshow loaded with information on various topics. Previous lessons will be referenced as we go along but each will be designed to be stand alone classes that can be requested at any time. Here are a list of our topics: Syllabus of Class Topics for the Spring Lesson 1 - The Budget Basics -The budget is an absolute MUST starting right now. If you don't have a plan for your money it will just disappear. In this lesson we look at why budgeting is important and how it can actually be fun. We look at how to create a budget and will take time for students to practice. In college you sacrifice having a large income now, for what you want later. Trade school is much in the same, you just graduate sooner. The military and entering the work force pay you right off the bat which can be good and bad. This lesson is so important that I consider is "Lesson 1". If you are unsure of a lesson you want or want to join a weekly class, this is where we will begin. Lesson 2 - The Post-Secondary Multiple Choice: College, Trade School, The Military, or The Workforce. -Select One of the Following: College, Trade School, The Military, or The Workforce. These are the four choices most kids face when they are about 18 years old. That is a tough choice for a kid. In this lesson we look a little bit at those four choices and what life looks like in those worlds both in the short term and later on in life. In college you sacrifice having a large income now, for what you want later. Trade school is much in the same, you just graduate sooner. The military and entering the work force pay you right off the bat which can be good and bad. Lesson 3 - Time Management & The Weekly Reset -It is crazy how much time you have as a young adult. It is also crazy how much time you don't have as a young adult. In this lesson we look at ways to maximize your time and stay organized. We look at using a to-do list, using a calendar, creating routines in the morning and evening, and using alarms on your phone. This lesson also looks at a Process my wife and I call ""The Reset"". In college I got really behind on a lot of stuff when I started my second job and got busy in school. I had to create a list of things that absolutely had to be done every single week and set aside a time each week no matter what. In this lesson I talk about the Reset List and how it has guided my Sunday's for years to make sure I can be productive the rest of the week. This includes things like laundry, the budget, meal planning, grocery shopping, cleaning the house/ apartment and how it can all be done in one afternoon. Lesson 4 - Utilities, Owning A Car, Types of Insurance -One new thing for a young adult might be utilities. It's probably something you have thought about (or been made to think about when you left the lights on or the fridge open) but not really know much about. Here, we take a look at the types of utilities and explore what they are and where you can go to sign up. We also look at the ins and outs of having a car. We'll look at owning V leasing V financing, how to take care of your car including routine maintenance, and more. We will also touch on types of insurance that are good to be aware of. Lesson 5 - Feeding Yourself -Meal planning, Grocery Shopping, and Cooking for yourself. Meal planning can save a lot of time and money. It will eliminate those mid-week trips to the grocery store. We pair this with info on how to actually go to the grocery store. Where to buy groceries based on any budget, diet, or nutritional needs you decide to abide by as you become an adult. We also look at some ways to make meals on a budget and how to use certain kitchen appliances. Lesson 6 - Investing Basics -Investing early is the absolute most important thing you can do to make sure your money grows. In this lesson we look at why that is and how to become wealthy over the course of your working life. We talk about how to invest and where to go to get started, things to be aware of, and how ultimately the decisions are up to YOU. This is the class where you learn to change your family tree, life stress free, and have the financial ability to help people later on in life. Lesson 7 - Habits of Health and Application Time -This is a time where many people are pretty rough on their body. In this lesson we look at ways to lead a healthy lifestyle as a young adult from how to get enough sleep, when and where to exercise, and how to handle stress in healthy ways. We also look at the importance of going to the doctor as a young adult. This lesson is paired with our lesson on applications. Want a place to live? Want a way to get paid? Want a job? Want to go to college? All of these things require applications. In this lesson we look at various applications you will have to fill out sooner or later. Lesson 8 - Sharpen The Saw: Cheap (and not cheap) Entertainment as a Young Adult -It is vitally important to have fun. Some people can work for years without stopping but eventually you will burn out. You have to take time for fun and to wind down. So, what to do, what to do? In some ways life as a young adult is the most fun you will have. This may be the first time you have been able to do what you want and go where you want whenever you want without having to ask for permission. Sounds cool. In other ways this is the least amount of fun you will have. Limited on funds and knowledge you may not even know what to do for fun as an adult or how to pay for it. In this lesson we deep dive into the things you can do for fun on whatever budget you have or location you live in. Lesson 9 - Motivation Monday: Mindsets and Goal Setting -Time to get going! This group of slides looks at Life Lessons, Habits for Highly Successful People, ways you can invest in those around you and create a strong network, and the fact that it all pretty much boils down to that you have to Work Hard and Do the Right thing. We ask ourselves where we want to be and look at how to set goals for both long term and short term. WE ARE CURRENTLY ON SUMMER HOURS. CLASS TIMES/ DAYS ARE PENDING FOR THIS FALL!!! ***CLASS INSPIRATION*** When I graduated high school at 18 years old there was so much I didn't know. I didn't know what a credit hour was, how to light charcoal, or anything I can remember about how to seriously handle money. You figure it out over the course of time but I firmly believe that if I had started with the knowledge of a few things it would make things so much easier for so many young people. Coaching gave that to me as well as working in my community college class for those who didn't graduate high school. I had been teaching this stuff for years but Outschool just gave me a chance to take it to the next level. When my brother Eli graduated I decided to upload my budgeting class for him but the idea evolved into a 9 lesson class that I believe loads young people down with very useful information. ***COST AND COUPONS*** Right now you can enter coupon code CoachUt20 to get your first class free until the end of May! After that you can message me for a coupon code for your first class for free. After that, this class becomes $10 per section.
