We will learn all the concepts of the first half of Algebra 1 in this semester long (16 week) course. Students completing both semesters will be ready to move onto Geometry and Algebra 2. Learners should have completed Math 8 or PreAlgebra before beginning this course. Class time: This is a teacher led, interactive class; I will present the lesson and we will practice together. Learners should come to class prepared with their notebook and pencil. Students will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout class. My goal is to build a classroom community where students are comfortable asking questions and commenting as I believe this helps everyone learn. The topics covered: Week 1 1.1 Solving Simple Equations 1.2 SolvingMulti-StepEquations Week 2 1.3 Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides 1.4 Solving Absolute Value Equations Week 3 1.5 Rewriting Equations and Formula 2.1 Writing and GraphingInequalities Week 4 2.2 Solving InequalitiesUsing Addition or Subtraction 2.3 Solving InequalitiesUsing Multiplication orDivision Week 5 2.4 SolvingMulti-StepInequalities 2.5 SolvingCompoundInequalities Week 6 2.6 Solving Absolute Value Inequalities 3.1 Functions Week 7 3.2 LinearFunctions 3.3 FunctionNotation Week 8 3.4 Graphing Linear Equations in Standard Form 3.5 Graphing Linear Equations in Slope-Intercept Form Week 9 3.6 Transformations of Graphs of Linear Functions 3.7 Graphing Absolute Value FunctionsLinear Functions Week 10 4.1 Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Form 4.2 Writing Equations in Point-Slope Form Week 11 4.3 Writing Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines 4.4 Scatter Plots and Lines of Fit Week 12 4.5 Analyzing Lines of Fit 4.6 Arithmetic Sequences Week 13 4.7 Piecewise Function 5 Solving Systems of LinearEquations Week 14 5.1 Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Graphing 5.2 Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Substitution Week 15 5.3 Solving Systems ofLinearEquations by Elimination 5.4 Solving Special Systems of LinearEquations Week 16 5.5 Solving Equations byGraphing 5.6 Graphing Linear Inequalities in Two Variables 5.7 Systems of Linear Inequalities Guardians should let me know if they would like to be aware of participation (or lack of participation), video on/off, etc, in class. Camera/Video: I prefer the camera to be on the entire class time so that I can see from their facial expressions if they are understanding the concepts or not. With video off, if the learner is not replying, I do not know if they are confused or distracted. I prefer video on with all of my math courses, but it is not required. Refund Policy: All of my semester courses are set at “moderate” refund policy. Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase. Then 75% refund within the first week (of the first class). I will give homework suggestions and encourage learners to grade work so they can see what mistakes they made and learn from their mistakes. I love math and making it simple for learners!
