Persuasive writing can be a fun and exciting genre for young learners to find a passion and purpose for writing. It is one of my favorites to study, and the pleasure I get from teaching this genre makes for an enjoyable class. During day one, we choose a topic from a list of ready-to-go, high-interest persuasive topics for ages 8-12. Your young writer may also choose their own topic before or during the first class. Whether you choose one of my topics or your own, this class includes resources to supply supportive details for your topic, graphic organizers, and persuasive vocabulary and techniques. After choosing our topic, we will locate resources (my topics have pre-found resources) to support our chosen topic. Day 1 is focused mainly on reading to gather details to help our persuasive case and put them onto a graphic organizer. We will read a least two resources to collect information. Objectives include locating quality evidence and quotes, paraphrasing, organizing notes, inferring, vocabulary, and more. During day 2, we use our knowledge from day 1, the completed graphic organizer, persuasive vocabulary, transition words, organization, word choice, and voice to write our paper. We develop an introduction with a catchy hook, organized body paragraphs, and a firm conclusion during this stage. During day 3, we polish our writing. We revise, edit, create a creative title and cover page, and add images and captions if needed. Finally, we locate a way to publish our persuasive creation to the desired audience! We will use a shared Google doc, so learners can work on their draft between sessions and have a copy of their work. I am a fun, exciting, engaging, patient, and understanding educator that enjoys teaching and learning. This attitude is evident in my classes! No boring teachers allowed! This is all accomplished in a friendly, encouraging, upbeat setting with a tutor who believes the cup is always half full! Also, if you are looking for a date and time that works for you, please message me so we can figure out a schedule.
