Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
Advanced Level
The class will give students the opportunity to have more advanced, richer conversations in French with up to 6 learners. Students will be encouraged to ask questions if they don’t know how to say something and actively use their French dictionary to learn new words, grammar structures and verbs. Students may suggest a topic in advance to allow for some preparation as needed. Topics will be chosen based on students' interest and passions so they will feel more comfortable to have conversations with their classmates. Students will be encouraged to ask how to say new words if they don't know them and use a dictionary to help understand the new words they discover and how to use them in common speech and use alternative words and expressions.

As this is a conversational class, students will be encouraged to speak primarily in French as much as possible with their peers to build fluid conversation and help them to increase their French language vocabulary and grammar skills.

The goal as a teacher of this class will be:
- to encourage shy students to feel comfortable to participate with topics they are interested in
- support students to increase engagement.
- encourage natural conversation in French

My teaching style is:
- supportive
- fun loving
- encouraging

I love to see my students do well, celebrate their successes and help them to continue to make progress. I will also encourage students to challenge themselves with different topics and conversation and seek out unfamiliar words and grammar structures. As appropriate, grammar lessons may be part of some lessons as required. Currently, I tutor French for youth and adult learners and can provide additional support to learners as needed.

Based on the flow of the class, I will adjust based on the skillsets of the students. I like to ask questions and will encourage students to learn how to ask good questions in French with the goal to learn and speak more and support more advanced conversations.

Students will be able interact with each other through a guided and supported lively discussion in French. Some lessons will be supported by video clips to encourage listening skills and the ability to respond in French in real time. Some classes will encourage students to watch a movie French prior to class that all students will view and share their opinions.

Students should be at least at a grade 10-12 level of French and able to express themselves in full sentences in French. Student should be familiar with all the tenses - présent, passé composé, plus-que-parfait, imparfait, futur proche.

**Since this is a group class, the minimum number of 4 students will be required to ensure learners have the ability to converse with each other. For 1:1 instruction, please see Yes, I Speak French offered by Teacher Michelle**
Learning Goals
Students will learn new French words depending on the topic of the class and will be encouraged to do some research in advance on topic where their vocabulary may be more limited to have a conversation
