Class Experience

For this class, there will be 2 English lessons each week. Every lesson will follow the National Curriculum in the UK for year 4 (age 8-9).

Each English lesson we will begin by doing a reading comprehension, we will take turns reading and answering questions. These can either be from handouts provided from me or from the book in the class resource list. You may also listen to stories read by the teacher, which will be discussed.

During reading, we will read the text as a class. We will develop pleasure for reading and our understanding of the purpose of texts. We will develop many skills such as using dictionaries, asking questions to develop understanding, retrieving and recording information, making inferences and so much more.

We will then use the remainder of the lesson to focus on writing, grammar, punctuation and spellings. Many topics will be covered over the course. Power Points will be shown when necessary and discussions to develop understanding will take place before we move onto tasks. In each lesson I will use the ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach to ensure understanding.

Each week, pupils will be given homework and age appropriate spellings to learn. These will be common exception words, using prefixes and suffixes and spelling homophones and using the possessive apostrophe.

Throughout lessons, you child will continually be assessed informally and feedback will be given upon request. Extra work can also be given upon request.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I’m Miss Schofield :) I am a fully qualified primary school tutor in the UK with 4+ years experience in the classroom. I also have just over 2 years experience as a private tutor, supporting children from the ages of 4-11.

Since becoming a teacher, I have very much enjoyed my time in the classroom, but due to such a busy lifestyle, I have decided to take my own path on educating through online teaching. As well as teaching, I also have a great passion for animals (horses in particular) and travelling, which can be very time consuming!

My classes are based off the National Curriculum in the UK. At the moment, I am teaching Maths and English as part of a homeschool approach, but I hope to include more scientific and creative subjects depending on the demand.

I’m very creative and I am always on the look out for new ideas for teaching. I feel as though I customise the curriculum to make it more exciting for pupils to develop their own curiosity. This definitely supports their learning.

I always ensure that I am kind, punctual and I have excellent organisational skills. I also have the ability to communicate well, especially with children.

From as young as I can remember, I played teachers. I had my own desk, register and books that I pretended to mark. I loved it. Although school was actually a bit of a rollercoaster. I have many memories of school, even right back to being in nursery or even pre-school. I remember good times and bad times. I also remember most of my teachers. Most of my teachers were lovely, they definitely shaped the way I felt about school.

Through these experiences, I understand the importance of being a teacher that is kind, welcoming, enthusiastic and approachable.
I was quite academic, I loved reading and was proud of how well I excelled in English. I understand firmly how children have different strengths and unique learning styles.

I also have 5 younger siblings, they range from the age of 4 - 21 and I have helped support them with a LOT of school work. Two of my brothers have dyslexia, I have witnessed their unique learning styles and definitely become more knowledgeable in this area.
