50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time course, we will learn about the key events leading up to Pearl Harbor, the attack itself, and the after effects. We will begin with a warm welcome and then introduce the KWL research strategy students will be using throughout the class. I will be using PowerPoint and discussion to guide the lesson and get student input. Don't forget to take notes so you can compare what you knew at the beginning of class to what you've learned by the end! I like a supportive atmosphere where students can share their thoughts with excitement and enthusiasm. There will be quite of bit of direct instruction with an emphasis on class discussion throughout.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of what lead to the attack on Pearl Harbor, the details of the attack, and what happened as a result of the attack.

External Resources

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Teacher Janan, and I am so happy to meet you! I've been married twelve years to the love of my life, and we have four kiddos!
I love teaching! I have been a classroom teacher for seven years, and an online ESL teacher for two and a half years. I also taught on Outschool for about two years before taking a break to be with my littles more and homeschooling my kids. During my seven years of classroom teaching I taught middle school (5-8) history, social studies, English, arithmetic, reading, algebra, art, Bible, language arts, media literacy, and computer. I've lived and taught in both the United States and Canada.
My B.A. is in elementary education, and I also have an MA in education (curriculum, assessment, and instruction). I love creating curriculum and doing my best to inspire a love for learning in my students!
I'm a teacher who loves learning! I think that learning should happen naturally as well as purposefully. Subjects aren't in "boxes," and they integrate with each other constantly. Learning should be fun and interesting, not forced! In my classes we'll take an interactive and flexible approach to learning key objectives from the class. We'll keep the big things the big things, but have lots of fun along the way!!
I look forward to meeting you screen-to-screen!
A couple notes!
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
I ask that students keep their mics on mute (unless they are speaking) so that there is not background noise and good sound quality for other students. In my classes that are the middle school age range I ask that students communicate mostly through the chat box for class comments and questions. Students are welcome to ask questions or give comments out loud, but I do ask that they raise their hand respectfully and wait until they are called on to respond.

RECORDINGS
Recordings are no longer automatically uploaded in order to protect the privacy of students. If you miss a class and need a recording, please let me know!

SIBLINGS
I do follow the Outschool policy for multiple students on one device. If there is more than one student, both should be signed up individually to be fair to other students in the class.

VIDEO
Although I do not require cameras on throughout an entire class, I do ask that students be able to turn on their cameras and verify their identity at the beginning of class. This is in order to follow Outschool policies, as well as to protect other students involved in the class.

REFUNDS
My refund policy is the same as Outschool's: "Full refund within 24 hours of purchase or up to a week in advance of the class."
Ongoing: If you need to miss a class and want to avoid paying the weekly fee, you will need to unsubscribe. I cannot issue refunds for missed classes.
One-time: If you need a transfer, please request it before twenty-four hours so that there is still time for another student to fill your slot.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS
If enrollment has not met the minimum number of students, class is subject to being cancelled. I will do my best to inform you within twenty-four hours of the class if it looks like a cancellation will occur. You may opt for a transfer to a future section or a full refund. If I do not hear from you before the class starts, you will automatically receive a refund.
