What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This class is designed to inspire and bring joy to students. This is not a formal language arts curriculum, rather it is a place for children to have fun and learn from each other. Reluctant writers and talented young writers are equally welcome! Our class will follow this format weekly: 1) "Would you rather..." question to cultivate imagination 2) Fun word of the week definition and example to offer some inspiration 3) Animal of the week revealed to provide content 4) Brainstorming session to plan plot elements of our fictional short story 5) Students have the option to write on their own or contribute to our class story 6) Students may share anything they wish to share PLEASE NOTE: I am very flexible and there may be weeks where students want to continue a story from one week to the next, while other weeks our stories remain short. I may also offer students the chance to create their own endings to a story that we began in class (optional use of their own time, of course.) I am committed to adapting to student needs so that they feel fulfilled. No homework, no lectures, and no judgement. I am an upbeat and very patient person who adapts well to make all learners feel comfortable. I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have and look forward to working with your family! Animal of the week: Week of January 26th/ Week 1 - Wolves Week of February 2nd/ Week 2 - Horses Week of February 9th/ Week 3 - Dolphins Week of February 16th/ Week 4 - Elephants More animals of the week added weekly and chosen by popular demand!
Learning Goals
My hope is for every child to believe in themselves and realize they have something valuable to offer whether they write for their own self-expression or to pursue professional writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Science
Before I became a teacher I worked with wildlife, in a microbiology lab, and also in animal welfare. I have always been called to work with children and have volunteered at girl scout camps, zoo camps and children's hospitals. As a teacher on Outschool I am committed to bringing visual and relatable content to the classroom. I believe teaching is more than just a lecture. I am always available for questions and support!
