Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
This is an ongoing class that covers one genre of writing each week. Students are given a writing prompt and a graphic organizer. To ensure that students understand the writing tasks, all graphic organizers include the prompt AND a little picture to represent the writing prompt. Students are also provided with draft paper with built-in-support. The built-in support on the draft paper includes sentence starters, word banks, and self-assessment checklists.

- Sentence starters are great for helping students structure their writing, use transition words, and write in complete sentences.
- Word banks provide language and vocabulary support.
- Self-assessment checklists help students learn to routinely self-assess their writing. They also help “fast finishers” slow down, edit, and revise their work!

This is an ongoing class, so students are welcome to join any week. I keep my class size small so that I can offer effective feedback and guidance.

Master's Degree in Behavioral Science from Northwestern University
I love teaching children how to write! I have a master's degree from the School of Education at Northwestern University and a certificate to teach English (CTEFL) as a foreign language from Georgetown University. I was the head of the English department in an international primary school, and assessed and supported students' English language development. I have more than 15 years of experience teaching English, and recently started an after-school program in literacy. I look forward to helping your children develop their writing abilities!
