This is a one time course on a specific creative writing topic: character development. As students read and discuss the captivating characters in their favorite literary texts, they will be inspired to create their own dynamic characters.

Dozens of books may sit on your shelf. You may not remember every detail, every setting or every conflict. Students will understand how characters play an important role in shaping fiction stories. Students will use their favorite author's writing to identify elements of good writing techniques. Students will create and write about an original character for their own creative writing piece.

Homework Offered
Prior to class, students should think about their favorite character in a fiction book. They will share this at the beginning of the class. Students are also encouraged to send their work to the teacher after class for feedback on the strengths of the writing as well as areas for improvement.Assessments Offered
