Class Experience

In this one time class we will discuss different ways to organize writing depending upon the purpose of the writing. We will read passages from the picture book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett together in class. I will also show a brief movie clip of the popular movie based on the book to help the students to visualize some ideas for their writing. We will notice the way the author organized the book through the use of meals such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will complete a graphic organizer in class together that will get the creative juices flowing focusing on descriptive adjectives and interesting nouns. The students will write a three-part description of food that rains from the sky during breakfast, lunch, and dinner in their made up town. I will write along with the students and share my writing so that students will feel comfortable sharing. Students will encourage one another by sharing their work and commenting on what they like about the writing paying close attention to the adjectives used.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of the six traits of writing: organization and word choice.

I have something to meet the needs of all types of learners! I even have life skills classes and some fun pet classes where we learn how to care for bunnies, cats, gerbils, and hamsters! I can’t wait to meet your child!

When I am not teaching, I love to read, write, research best practices of teaching, crochet, play board games with my family, and take family vacations to learn more about nature, science, and history. You can often find me reading a book on time management or how to organize and clean your home more effectively! I love learning! Let's learn and have fun together!
