Writing Tutoring (Introduction)

In this 30 minute session, I will provide writing support for students who wish to bring their writing to the next level. When the session begins, I will spend the first 3 - 5 minutes getting to know the student. This will involve the student telling their name and answering questions such as:
1.  What do you like about writing?
2.  What do you believe are your writing strengths?
3. What would you like to improve in concerning your writing?


Once the student and I have gotten to know one another, we will move to analyzing the student's work. The students are encouraged to submit a sample of their work in a private message to me before class. If the student has already taken a course with me (examples: creative writing, writing a narrative, writing games, etc.) then I should have a copy of their work and will use that as a sample. This will allow me to identify their strengths and areas of improvement. The student and I will discuss any additional concerns that the student has about their work so that we can address them together. The student and I will then form an action plan on how to continue to improve the student's writing. This action plan may be in the form of re-arranging some paragraphs in a story, adding additional details, utilizing transition words (first, next, then, and then and finally) as well as writing a final draft that contains the corrections that the student and I discussed.

After class, I will provide a summary of what was covered and discussed during the session to the parent(s).
