US Grade 4 - 7
This class is designed to equip students with the fundamental skills needed to excel in writing for prompts and crafting formal critiques. Through a structured curriculum based on the principles of the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), students will develop a strong foundation in both creative and critical writing.

**It is recommended that students have previous experience with IEW, however, students with no experience may join as well**

Throughout the course, students will learn the art of crafting responses to various prompts effectively. From essay prompts to creative writing prompts, students will be guided through the process of understanding the requirements, brainstorming ideas, organizing thoughts, and constructing well-supported arguments or narratives. Through hands-on exercises and practical assignments, students will sharpen their ability to respond thoughtfully and eloquently to any given prompt.

In addition to mastering writing for prompts, students will delve into the art of writing formal critiques. Whether analyzing literature, art, films, or academic papers, students will learn how to evaluate, critique, and articulate their opinions in a structured and professional manner. They will explore techniques for conducting thorough analyses, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and providing constructive feedback.

The class will emphasize key elements of effective writing, including clarity, coherence, organization, and evidence-based argumentation. Students will learn how to incorporate relevant evidence, develop compelling arguments, and craft polished prose that engages readers and communicates ideas effectively.
