Writing Numbers: Halloween Theme

In each class of this four day course we will learn the formation of 2-3 numbers and transform each number into pictures following simple steps. Prefect for emerging and resistant learners alike.

Class Experience

Students will learn the correct formation of the numbers. Each number will be transformed into a drawing that is Halloween themed. Drawing steps are simple and explained by referencing other shapes and/or letters (e.g. add a small c at the bottom of this line, make a line to connect the two circles). Verbal directions are also paired with a visual aid via a document camera. Students will make predictions as we create the picture as to what the final image will be. We will fill in a 10's grid to represent the number, helping to visually understanding the concept of quantity.  We will complete two numbers per class. 

Students do not need any prior knowledge of numbers. By engaging with the numbers in both writing and transforming them, they will learn to identify the name of the number, count in order, and learn a fun way to draw. Each letter will be on a page that has space for additional practice of the number formation. On our last class, we will dress up and show off our costumes.

Supply List

The only materials needed are paper, pencil, and crayons/markers. I will provide a document to print ahead of time.

External Resources

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Thank you so much for talking the time to learn more about me! I have been teaching for 11 years. I am a certified in English and Art for Kindergarten to 12th grade, Social Studies for grades 6-9 and general Elementary Education. I have taught 2nd grade of a year, and 8th and 7th grade English Language Arts in the classroom for 6 years. Since the beginning of my career, I have tutored students in preparation for the ACT and SAT. Most recently, I have taught English as a Second Language through an online platform for the past 5 years. 

I have three beautifully curious kids (ages 5, 2, and 0) and three lovingly silly dogs. We all live in a small house in Ohio. 

I LOVE art and always find that it brings me so much joy! In my spare time, I love painting and creating ceramics. In the past, I've combined my love of learning and art by teaching Mommy and Me Music and Art classes at my local park district. 

My passions of learning, reading, art, and history allow me to create a unique learning experience by integrating these topics to create a truly meaningful and memorable learning experience. I can't wait to see you in class to start our learning adventure!
