Class Experience

In this two-session class, we will take a close look at the basic structure of paragraphs and learn how to plan out a good paragraph of our own using a fun, engaging Legend of Zelda theme.

Class One: Students will be introduced to the three main parts of a paragraph: the introduction, the details, and the conclusion. Then we will take a look at a picture or two (as time allows) from a Legend of Zelda game and practice building a good paragraph together that could go with each picture. At the end of class, students will be given an assignment to write a paragraph of their own, using the three parts of a paragraph that we'll learn about in class. The topic of their paragraph will be provided by me and promises to be an intriguing one for fans of the Legend of Zelda games and is sure to be an engaging challenge as they practice their paragraph-writing skills!

Class Two: Students will have the opportunity to share their paragraphs with the rest of the class, while giving and receiving feedback about their work and the work of their classmates.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about the three basic parts of a paragraph: the introduction, the details, and the conclusion. Students will then practice creating paragraphs, both as a class and on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am offering this project-based learning opportunity because I believe that they're highly effective due to the way they incorporate multiple aspects of learning. It's always great for kids to take the skills they're learning and have the opportunity to apply them in a fun, exciting, real-world scenario. I have used several project-based learning activities in my own teaching and am always so pleased to see the students engaged with what they're learning!
