US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this, one off, introduction to story writing lesson, students will be guided through the key components of narrative writing to create their own Minecraft short story. Students will be able to choose from different Minecraft images as a stimulus for writing so that they can build their own story. During the lesson, children will receive instruction, and then have time to apply this by writing their own sentences. There will be lots of opportunities for the children to interact and share their work. The class will also involve some Minecraft-themed games and a short show and tell at the end, so please feel free to bring a Minecraft toy, game, book, drawing, or screenshot. This lesson is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced students as each part of the writing process will be guided. Advanced students will be catered for as well through targeted questioning and vocabulary expectations. If you would like other times or dates than I have down as available please just ask and I will do my best to accommodate
Learning Goals
Children will have the opportunity to:
- write about a setting, a character, and story actions
- talk about their writing
- talk about how this type of writing helps to create an effective authorial style
- understand how they can finish their stories independently.

Supply List
If children are able to type, the lessons work best using Google Docs, so that I can see what they are writing and edit it with them in live time. Please make sure that you have an account set up and logged on for the lesson. If children cannot or do not want to type we can easily use pen and paper, but please make sure that it is a dark pen that I will be able to see on camera. Some printed resources may be required, but I will give due notice of these.

For 10 years, I have been the head of English at two different schools where I have had the responsibility for driving progress and achievement. My focus as a teacher and a leader has always been to help children reach academic excellence through exciting and innovative lessons.
