From the example of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, learners will create an entry in a personal journal, draw pictures to go with it, and share with the class (if they would like) in every session of this ongoing class.

Description

Class Experience

Learners will practice using an outline to write a fluent, descriptive paragraph while collaborating with peers through discussion. The journal entries are loosely based on the series "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney in that we will focus on writing about a life event and draw pictures to go with it. (The books will not be discussed in class and learners do not need to have read them prior to enrollment.)  This style of journal writing helps even the most reluctant writer get excited to...

    write more fluently.
    incorporate adjectives in their writing
    use an outline
    brainstorm before writing
    socialize with peers
