My 11 year old son enjoys writing, but I still wasn't quite sure how 6 classes in the summer where he was going to have to write would turn out when I signed him up. However, he absolutely LOVED this camp. In fact, we can barely get him to go to bed because he's busy writing. So, as a parent, getting kids enthusiastic about writing, in my mind, is a total success! Ms. Miller was really great with the kids and walking kids virtually through setting up a blogging site is amazing. Probably one of the coolest camps he's ever done. Looking into signing up for the next-level blogging camp with Ms. Miller!!” -Dana A. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - *This class will not be canceled if only one student is enrolled for class. *Many students take this class for English credit, STEM or technology credit, general Elective credit, and/or Writing credit, and may request a grade at the end of the two weeks for summer school credit. *To become a master blogger and to improve writing and technology skills, it is best to enroll in this 101 class, then spend the school year blogging in the follow-up classes: 102, 103, 104, 105, and 106. Classes are scheduled out for the year to help parents plan. These classes may also help with yearly school credits for English, STEM, Technology, History, Elective, Writing, and/or Social Studies. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If you have something to share, say, inspire, or teach, this is the class for you! This class is for those looking to improve their writing skills or display short stories they've written. Journalists, food critics, book reviewers, future politicians, creative thinkers, gamers, hair stylists, artists, bakers, chefs, sports casters, travelers, and all are welcome! In this camp, your 9-13 year old will learn how to write blogs, will write their own blogs, and create their own basic website through the free version of WordPress. (No coding experience is required. This class will not cover coding but basic website page builders.) Your student will learn the importance of blogging in today’s society and how blogging helps market businesses. Teacher feedback on writing as well as web page building will be provided to all students. Blogging is an important entrepreneurship skill. It drives business sales and digital traffic to a company or organization website. Blogging also helps to share new ideas while inspiring others. WordPress is one of the largest used website building platforms that professional website developers use. In my own marketing business, we use WordPress to build websites for business and organizations. WordPress is an easy to use platform that requires very little coding knowledge. Students in this course will not need to know coding to build their own blogging website. Students may learn a few basic coding techniques. During class, students will set up a free WordPress account to create their own websites. Creation and setup of WordPress will be taught in this course. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What is the structure of this class? During the first half of every lesson, teacher instruction will be provided on how to complete that day’s activity. The second half of every lesson will allow students to write their blogs and build their websites. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What’s your teaching style and how will you teach? I like to have fun in my classes. I am thorough in execution but joyful in presentation. I do expect students to follow instruction and do the assignments, and I welcome every question a student may ask. I will use slides to help present my lessons and hands-on work to engage student learning. I love having students bring in their own learning styles and ways of participation. Since this is a small class, I do expect to interact with all students. I want to learn about my students and what they are experienced in. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
