Instructions for my basic class for learning how to write a picture book or a short story. In this class, students can write simple short stories or a picture book. I will help them build their writing and storytelling skills. They draw before or after class if they want to include pictures in their stories. You may be wondering if your child is at the right level for this class. They need to know how to write at least fifty basic words in English. They only need to be able to write a few...
Students will improve their writing in every area by focusing on topics they want to write about. In terms of English grammar, they will fix any of their common mistakes and improve their overall fluency, including sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, verbs, and vocabulary.
I have over twenty years of experience teaching writing, language arts, and ESL. I currently fun a successful after-school writing program in the Los Angeles and Culver City School Districts. Also, I have two published novels - both acclaimed books, making many best of lists. The last one was listed as one of NPR's best novels of 2018. I've taught every level of writer, from ones who have a hard time writing a sentence to ones who can write novels.
Homework Offered
This is a no-homework class. In fact, my hope is that it will help you with homework and give you a place to get work done as well as have some fun.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

This is for any kid, and I love kids who have unique learning needs.
I supply the curriculum and I use Canva to share slides so that they can understand everything they need to do. For every class, I love them to bring something (an object, a toy, a piece of food) because it makes the class fun and interactive, but if they don't, no big deal.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will be using a Canva presentation to help the students understand the grammar and see the prompts. Every day, they will bring an unusual object to our camp as a fun, interactive addition to the camp.
