What's included

2 live meetings
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Mastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. Although most of the steps will be covered during our two classes, there will be a little time needed after each class for completing steps. I will be available via Outschool messaging for any questions after class.
Grading
Class fee includes written feedback and grammar editing/suggestions for the essay following class. In order for the essay to be evaluated, it must be either typed or very neatly handwritten. The files should be uploaded in a direct Outschool message to me rather than posted on the main classroom page. Photos of handwritten work may be submitted provided the photos are oriented in the correct direction, taken from directly above, and fill the frame of the picture. If I cannot read it, I will ask for a different file to be uploaded. The submitted essay must be double-spaced.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Have you ever received a kind letter from a friend or a family member? A thoughtful well-written composition can be an excellent and cherished gift. In this class, learners will be guided through the steps to complete a brief essay about a treasured person in their life. The essay can be gifted as an essay or converted into a personal letter. This class will meet two times to complete all the steps needed for the essay.

Class will cover:
-steps to plan and write a brief essay
-outlining
-body paragraphs
-brief introductions and conclusions
-basic grammar and sentence structure
-style techniques

Class 1:
We will begin with an overview of the essay process. Learners will be given prompts and questions to think through in planning their essay. Outlining and basic grammar will be taught. Remaining class time will be spent in guided practice as the learners begin to craft their essay. Suggestions will be given for working on the essay between classes.

Class 2:
We will begin with proofreading symbols and grammar rules. Learners will have an opportunity to share parts of their essays with the class for feedback. Brief instructions will include introductions, conclusions, style techniques, and how to convert the essay to a letter. Suggestions for finishing the gift will be given. Remaining class time will be spent in revising and editing.

Note: Do you have a group that would enjoy this class together? A private section can be requested with a minimum of four learners.
