3 in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this ongoing campaign, students will learn the basics of playing Dungeons and Dragons by simply jumping into the adventure. Students are placed at the focus of the lesson and will be actively working together 10 minutes into the session. Each week will have two, 90 minute adventure sessions, separated by a 30 minute break where students can update their character's information and prepare questions. This is roughly 3.5 hours of total time. Through this adventure, students will learn about the basic combat mechanics, as well as teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving skills. This class is designed for players who have an understanding of D&D and are keen to learn more. Of course new players are welcome too. Students can come and go as they please - new characters will be introduced upon joining the party Wrath of the Seven is an ongoing D&D adventure designed For players that already know the basics of the game. The adventure overview: The Sword Coast in the land of Faerun is the target of a mysterious organization known only as The Seven. They are shrouded in mystery, with rumors of dark magic and strange weather sweeping the countryside. It is a time for adventurers, a time for heroes...and you are one of them. Join us as we embark on several quests in this ongoing campaign to solve the mysteries of The Seven. This is a highly interactive class, putting learners in the middle of the learning. They will make "in-game" decisions that will help them learn the detailed mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons. More importantly, we'll focus on how working together as a team is an effective way to overcome challenges both in game and in life. Conceptually, we will learn how the game mechanics work and then we will use those mechanics with examples that occur in an D&D encounter! We will cover combat, saving throws, skill and ability checks, and more. Everything will be explained when it becomes relevant. We will be utilising Dnd Beyond for our characters and Roll 20 to simulate the tabletop experience. Students are welcome to prepare their own characters ahead of time if they know how. Otherwise I will have a selection of pre-made characters to choose from when they join.
Learning Goals
Students will get to experience all that a roleplaying game has to offer: teamwork, problem solving, social interaction, and basic statistical calculations.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Role-playing games offer a creative "sandbox" in which participants can engage in imaginative problem solving. Fantasy violence will not be directly depicted, but the possibilities of this within the game will be discussed. Students may wish to explore ideas related to their characters that involve in-game "weapons" and "spells" for the use of "in-game" violence.
Supply List
Please make an account for Dnd Beyond and Roll 20 before the start of the class. https://www.dndbeyond.com/ https://roll20.net/ Roll 20 will handle the visual part but we will use the zoom classroom for audio.
