What to do when you worry too much! Did you know that worries are like tomatoes? No, you can't eat them, but you can make them grow, simply by paying attention to them. If your worries have grown so big that they bother you almost every day, this class is for you! Anxious feelings have a way of growing, spreading, shifting in form, and generally resisting efforts to talk it out of existence. This class will teach your learner a new a successful way to think about and manage anxious feelings. These techniques will help your child take control! The techniques in this class are based on three principles known as containment, externalization, and competing demands. ✅Learners will learn strategies for containing their anxious feelings, rather than let them run uncontrollably through their bodies. ✅They will learn how to externalize their anxious feelings to se the stage for exerting control over those feelings. ✅Learners will build strategies to handle anxious feelings by using distractions, which is one of the most useful tools one can use to break free from anxiety. This class focuses on self-awareness and building the skills necessary to maintain healthy mindfulness while dealing with worry. Topics will not be therapeutic in nature. This is not offering therapy for learners. This class is designed to allow for guided and controlled conversation around the topic of worry. Learners will be encouraged to be encouraging, inclusive, and positive with each other. The teacher (a licensed school counselor) will guide the conversations and keep the conversations focused on the topic for that class. The structure of the class allows the teacher tightly controlling the topics, content, and conversation to assure each class session is in line with Outschool's policy.
