What's included

2 live meetings
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. There is a definite correlation between student success and practicing what they learn at home. It would be great if parents could incorporate their new vocabulary words into conversation throughout the weeks to help cement those words into their permanent vocabulary knowledge. As for specific homework, it is very minimal.
Assessment
As a teacher in the classroom previously and having taught over 40,000 classes online now, I am used to continually "informally assessing" students as we go along, and providing additional help and clarification when needed. A lot of this assessment is done when asking questions before and after the story, or when going over the vocabulary.

This class meets twice weekly and will follow the same pattern throughout the 15 lessons (30 classes).

In the first class of each week, students will be introduced to the first five vocabulary words, using class discussion, and colorful concept and picture cards to help with understanding. Then, we’ll move on to a story that contains those words in the text.

After the story, there will be comprehension questions, as well, to help assess them for understanding, and I will be encouraging the use of the new vocabulary words in their answers.

In the second class of the week, we will talk about what they remember from the story and go over the five remaining new vocabulary words. Then, we will reread the story, while students identify the vocabulary words they hear (for ex. putting their finger on their nose when they hear one)....and work on retelling it. There are also some interactive activities that go with the story for them to do in class.....and some “Home-School Connection” activities to send home each week, relating to the words we worked on. We will also play games using the vocabulary words to help reinforce learning and understanding……and to have fun!

Learning Goals
The learning goal for this class is that students will learn, understand, and remember the majority of the 150 words they will be learning so that they will be more successful in their understanding of written/oral text and conversationally. That understanding also gives them a bigger vocabulary base as they go on to write their own stories and study academic content at higher levels, as well.

I'm a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience teaching children, most often in K-3rd grades. I have subbed all grades, though, from Preschool-12th grade and have regularly taught ages 3-18, online, for over 5 years now, in multiple subjects. I was also a director of a daycare center before going back to school to do a Master's in Teaching Program (Summa Cum Laude). I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Accounting.......and I even went to law school! Teaching is my passion, though!
