Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Reading and writing go together. In this class, students will learn spelling patterns to help them become better writers and readers.

Each week students will be given a list of 15 words to sort by either sound or spelling pattern. They will also be provided with a list of activities they can do throughout the week to help them learn the words (for example: write the words in different colors, or write the words in a silly way, say the word and spell it to someone at home). The class will follow the same format each time we meet. I will provide a link to a slideshow to go over the list and have the students do the first sort together. We will then play a game using our words on Jamboard.

I will provide a printable for students to use independently each day to practice their words. The first night students should cut and sort their words and pay attention to the spelling patterns. Students will have access to the slideshow through the entire week to practice their words. The last page of the slideshow will be an optional spelling quiz.

Week 1 - s, h and sh digraph
Week 2 - c, h and ch digraph
Week 3 - h, sh and ch digraphs

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to visit my virtual classroom. I am a certified teacher offering classes in Spanish, English as a Second Language, Reading, and elementary school subjects and crochet. If you would like me to work with your child, please don't hesitate to reach out! I look forward to meeting you and your child.

When I was in high school, I had an opportunity to internship at an elementary school and from that moment I fell in love with education. I went on to get my degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and have been teaching ever since. I started out in the regular elementary classroom and then had opportunities to teach Spanish, Reading and English as a Second Language.

I love helping children grow as learners. It gives me great joy to see them learn and achieve their goals. There is nothing better than working with a struggling reader and hearing them say "I can read this!" I believe that children learn best when they are having fun, and feel safe. It is my goal to make each child feel this way. I want them to know that they matter to me.

I was born in Venezuela and moved to the states at the age of 10. This has helped me connect with my ESL students in the past because I understand what they are going through. In Venezuela they speak Spanish, which is why I feel comfortable teaching Spanish to young learners. I have 3 kids and I decided to work from home so that I could enjoy as much of my time with them as possible. Time flies and I want to continue working in education and encouraging children to find a love of learning.
