Do you know some or most letters of the alphabet and their phonics sounds? If so, you're ready to start learning how to make words and READ! This ongoing class is perfect for a learner who can recognize some, if not most, letters of the alphabet and their phonics sounds. We will practice and review them while we learn how to read 3 and 4 letter words. Class will begin with our "Hello Everyone" song, followed by letter review and recognition, songs and chants. Each class we will play a game that focuses on two different phonics word families (ex. -at & -ap) and we will review various words in each family (ex: cat, rat, mat/ cap, rap, map). The materials needed are paper and coloring tools or a whiteboard and dry erase marker. For a more hands-on experience, your learner may bring play-doh or moulding clay (optional). Together we will make words and draw/create objects from each word family. There will also be an opportunity for a short show-and-tell period where each learner can show their work and/or an object corresponding to a word family of the day (ex: for the "at" word family a toy cat or bat may be shown). * Week 1 (Oct 31) - at & ap * Week 2 (Nov 7) - an & ag * Week 3 (Nov 14) - am & ad * Week 4 (Nov 21) - ab & ed * Week 5 (Nov 28) - en & et * Week 6 (Dec 5) - ig & in * Week 7 (Dec 19) - ip & it * Week 8 (Jan 2) - ob & og * Week 9 (Jan 9) - op & ot * Week 10 (Jan 16) - ub & ug * Week 11 (Jan 23) - un & ut * Week 12 (Jan 30) - word family bingo My mission is to engage your learner and provide a FUN and inclusive environment so that they are able to LOVE learning! Students are invited to join this class any time and even repeat for more practice.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Stephanie Cesario. It’s nice to meet you! :)
I believe in the beauty of inquiry and the joy in exploration. At the core of my teaching philosophy is to facilitate a classroom that is fun, hands-on and accommodates a variety of learning styles! I have guided hundreds of young learners in their early years and seen them grasp academic concepts, while also flourishing in social and emotional areas.
I am an Ontario Certified Teacher. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education (2009) and Masters of Education (2011) from the University of Ottawa. My teaching specialization is Primary/Junior (K-6th Grade). I spent 7 years in different roles, as Early Childhood English Coordinator, Program Coordinator and Teacher at Digital Chosun Canadian Culture and Language Institute in Seoul, Korea. I was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Ottawa’s Bilingualism Institute (2010) and completed additional qualifications courses “Teaching English as a Second Language” (2013) and “Teaching Learners with Communication Needs: Autism Spectrum Disorder” (2021). I taught teachers how to teach Kindergarten. I also worked as an Instructor in a university setting from 2016-2019.
Some of the courses I taught were Kindergarten (numbers, colours, shapes, letters of the alphabet, themes), Phonics (letter sounds, letter blends, reading sight words and reading short stories), Writing (periodical writing, film reviews and book reports), Language Arts (understanding social justice and reading comprehension) and English (pronunciation, understanding and using idioms, phrasal verbs and grammar).
On a personal side: I love to travel and explore different countries and cultures. A hobby of mine is snail mail. I love sending and receiving postcards to/from people all across the globe. I can't wait to meet you and learn together!
I am enthusiastic about ensuring that students have a love of art and literacy and love of learning. I pride myself in creative and well-planned curriculum, an inclusive classroom setting and in being part of sparking the "Aha-moments" that help students realize that they love to learn!
