Homework
1 hour per week. Homework is optional. Some homework options are as follows: Reading books about Helen Keller. Write a short summary about who Helen Keller was, the life that she lived and all that she was able to accomplish.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed throughout the lesson by observation and discussion.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Join me to learn all about the amazing life of Helen Keller!  I will be reading and discussing parts of the book "A Girl Named Helen Keller".  I will stop frequently throughout the lesson to discuss with students what they are learning about and what their thoughts are in relation to what they are learning.  There will be ample time allotted for students to share their thoughts about Helen Keller and the life that she lived.  

5 minutes-  This will be spent building background knowledge and discussing what learners already know about Helen Keller. 

15-20 minutes- I will read the story "A Girl Named Helen Keller" as well as share many pictures related to/about Helen Keller.  I will stop frequently to discuss what we've read, point out details from pictures, explain why things happened in a certain way, discuss what feelings that may have taken place, discuss how students may have felt if they had to endure those similar obstacles, etc.  

5  minutes-  After the story is over I will summarize what was learned about Helen Keller.

5-10 minutes- I will wrap up the lesson by asking and answering questions about what was learned about Helen Keller.  If time permits, I will have students practice signing the alphabet.  I will explain how this is a way that some people communicate with each other.

* Follow-up activities will be shared with learners at the end of class to help support what they learned in this class.

* Time may be adjusted for classes with a smaller number of students.

We will be discussing what it may have been (or might be) like to be blind, deaf or both.

I will be reading the book "A Girl Named Helen Keller" by Margo Lundell.  It is not required for you to purchase this book for the class.  This book is currently available on Amazon for $15.98, if you would like to purchase it.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
