Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Greetings Magical Students,

In this book discussion, we will look to the Harry Potter series for answers. For this section we will focus on discussing different themes that are present in the novel series. We will be using this class time to critically discuss these themes and examine the story. We will open up every class with introductions and then begin our discussion. As the Professor, I will be facilitating questions and talking points about the characters, the storyline, and different wizarding themes via a fun Would You Rather format. This class will be suitable for student who have already read Harry Potter novels. Sadly, with this there may be spoilers. A good understanding of upcoming themes will make for the class to flow easier.

Talking about a topic that you are passionate about is fun and helps to build listening and public speaking skills. Students are welcome to come to class dressed in Harry Potter robes or attire. Wands and magical pets are welcome as well!

Theme:
Week 1 Magical Creatures
Week 2 Wizarding Treats
Week 3: Step into the Characters shoes. What would the characters do presented with different situations.
Week 4: Diagon Alley- What do you like about this setting?
Week 5: Wizarding Tools
Week 6: The Dark Arts
Week 7: The Sorcerer's Stone
Week 8: Harry Potter at Random

This ongoing course will give students a chance to talk about their love of Harry Potter-related topics. Students will be able to discuss their own opinions on topics presented by the teacher. I will facilitate many questions in this question based book discussion.

Who should take this class:
1. Students who need an outlet for a social discussion.
2. Students looking to practice public speaking skills.
3. Students who have read the books and are needing to ask some questions.

What do my classes look like:
In class, I will facilitate the discussion with many pre planned questions based off the weeks subject. Students will each get a chance to speak on each question. Everyone will have the opportunity to speak an equal amount of time on each question.

Themes:
Each week will have one main topic(for example magical creatures), this could include specific books, characters, and themes from the Harry Potter series. I recommend students have knowledge of at least the first few books.

Pre-requisites or prior knowledge:
Students should have read at least the first few Harry Potter books in the series . The topic of each week will be a particular book in the series, a character from the series, theme, or etc. I try very hard to divert possible spoilers, but it is not guaranteed.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their listening, problem solving, and conversational skills . Students will gain confidence and and listening skills while socializing with other students of similar interests.
