In this multi-day winter holiday drawing camp, students will welcome the holiday season by learning to draw three holiday themed animal portraits in pencil. Students will meet for one week, with three classes during that week. Each class will cover ONE animal. Day One: Santa-Pug Students will learn to draw a proportionate and realistic pug puppy dressed in a Santa hat and scarf (head to chest). Day Two: Christmas Kitten Students will learn to draw a proportionate and realistic kitten with a Christmas ribbon (head to chest). Day Three: Deer and Sleigh Bells Students will learn to draw a proportionate and realistic deer with festive sleigh bells (head to chest and some of the back). To start each class, I will teach students techniques for drawing a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of each animal. After completing the contour drawing, I teach students various shading techniques as we begin to add detail and bring our festive holiday art to life! We practice shading and adding contrast a lot in these classes, so students will learn many shading techniques (e.g., how to shade smoothly, gradient blending, adding fur detailing/texture, etc.) I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me. My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding. Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class. Students who enroll in this class should have basic drawing skills, like drawing and manipulating shapes with a pencil. Students do not need previous knowledge of how to draw animals, but should have a passion for drawing. This class is perfect for anyone looking to do festive holiday art! Please note that each of the three classes included in this winter camp are also offered as individual courses.
