Class Experience

Students will be introduced to coding and learn how to program using the blocked-based visual programming language called Scratch. Students do not need prior coding experience. Students will learn how to create different games and along the way learn coding skills. This class will allow learners to use critical thinking skills and encourage creativity. They will learn the computer science fundamentals by learning different blocks and possibilities of making games and extending them to more challenging levels. It's completely hands-on, project-based fun game learning and scratch coding.

In each class, we will learn new concepts by introducing new blocks and finishing a gaming project.

Class 1: Tool, Set-up, Tour of scratch and blocks, Fun coding
Class 2: Gaming Project- Animation Focus
Class 3: Gaming Project - Shark Fun Game

REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS:

1. Students will be required to have a desktop computer or a laptop
2. Tablets or iPad's will not work
3. Some Chromebooks do not have access to all the blocks on Scratch 3.0. I recommend checking if it does before signing up for the class.
4. Students may take the class with one device but they will need to have two screens opened at the same time. They should be comfortable with this set-up called split window. Parents are encouraged to help in the first class with the set-up.
OR
5. It is strongly encouraged to have two devices. One device for Zoom and a second device for coding.

Learning Goals

Students will learn introduction to scratch coding and how to program their own fun games/

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi There,
I have a Master's Degree in Computer Science. I worked in many IT companies. I have been teaching computer programming and math for over 4 years to kids from k-12. I also own a tutoring company called Genius Coders Academy.
My teaching philosophy is to put students first - I go at their pace but also challenge them so they can learn something new and raise their bar. I also level-up my courses so learning is like climbing stairs as I strongly believe that a strong foundation is a must for any kind of learning and to be successful. I love teaching. It's my passion. It brings me so much joy and a job well done - wow moment when I see a child feels accomplished.
Outside my profession, I love hiking, yoga, and cooking with my kids.

Please follow my Facebook page- @GeniusCoders3
as I will be sharing events, workshops, and free resources on my FB page as well.
