Lights! Camera! Action! Wait, where are their feet?! We'll take a deep dive into the world of The Muppets to discover their unique ability to capture our hearts and the innovation in technology and arts that brought them to life. You may be surprised by how many characters you don't know and by who is behind (or under) the ones you love the most. Day 1: Most recognized Muppets: Field trip to the National Museum of American History Includes Kermit, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Bert & Ernie, Big Bird & Snuffleupagus, and Cookie Monster We'll also discuss Muppet puppet construction and operation Day 2: Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? What is the Children's Television Workshop and why is it a big deal? Then and now, Sesame Street's 50-year legacy We'll also discuss the elements used in Sesame Street to engage audiences Day 3: Darker and Lighter sides of the creations from Jim Henson's imagination Jim Henson made commercials, comedy, Fraggle Rock, The Storyteller, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and more! We'll also discuss typecasting and American views of puppetry arts Day 4: It's Time to Light the Lights!: The Muppet Show With the help of the Film Education's muppetational interactive study activities. Here, learners will develop: An understanding of character development A clearer picture of dramatic conventions and fiction genres An appreciation of pitch and rhythm and An affinity for puns and word play We'll also discuss how The Muppets are operated and filming techniques Day 5: Let's play Muppet Trivia! That's right! It's time for a game to test your knowledge from what we've explored all week and try out some bonus questions! The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, other Jim Henson creatures and more will be in our Muppet Trivia grand finale to this Muppetational camp! We'll wrap up our class with a discussion of what learners are interested in learning more about, now that they've explored so many of Jim Henson's creations and legacy.
