Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
The beautiful area of Shangri-La stretches from northeast India to northern Myanmar and is the habitat of some iconic species

Topics covered include (minor changes may occur based on student interest):
1) The ecology and characteristics of the Himalayan mountain biome
2) The idea of "charismatic megafauna" and why we love big animals like elephants and leopards
3) Case studies of several endemic species including snow leopards, Asian elephants, Ganges river dolphin, red pandas, the greater one-horned rhino, the Bengal tiger and more
4) Major conservation issues in the area, including illegal animal trade/poaching

This class will be an interactive lecture using slides, photos, and videos, as well as discussions throughout the class. I'm a high energy teacher and I'm an absolute nut about animals. I think my enthusiasm is usually infectious!

No prior knowledge needed. If your child is an avid animal-ologist, please evaluate the class description to ensure there will be new material for your student to learn. Message me with any questions!
