📝 Homework will be assigned weekly. Given the self-paced nature of this (pre-recorded) class, completion of assignments is required before advancing to subsequent lessons. This ensures that prior content is thoroughly understood as it will be revisited at the beginning of each class. Learners will be able to share their completed assignments through Outschool's messaging system or by posting on the Outschool Classroom. Week 1: Introduction to the Animal Kingdom 🖍️ Create a poster or infographic showcasing the different animal classifications (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates) along with examples of each group. Week 2: Mammals: Masters of the Land 💻 Research and write a short report on a specific mammal species, including its habitat, diet, adaptations, and interesting facts. Week 3: Birds: Nature's Aviators 🦅 Engage in a spot of birdwatching by observing birds in your local area (backyard, park, etc.) and create a journal documenting the species you see, their behaviors, and any other interesting observations. Week 4: Reptiles and Amphibians: Cold-blooded Conquerors 📐 Design a virtual zoo exhibit showcasing a variety of reptiles and amphibians. Learners can include descriptions of each species, their habitats, and any conservation efforts being made to protect them. Week 5: Fish: Guardians of the Seas 🐠 Research a marine ecosystem (coral reef, kelp forest, etc.) and create a presentation highlighting the diversity of fish species that inhabit it and the importance of preserving these habitats. Week 6: Invertebrates: Miniature Wonders of the Animal Kingdom 🔍 Collect and observe different types of local invertebrates (insects, spiders, worms, etc.). Learners can create a field guide or collage showcasing the diversity of invertebrate life in their area. Week 7: Animal Behavior and Communication 💬Choose an animal species and research its unique behaviors and communication methods. Learners can create a short video or slideshow presentation to share with the class in the final session. Week 8: Conservation and Biodiversity 🪧Take action! Students will brainstorm and implement a conservation project in their community, such as organising a beach clean-up, planting native plants to support local wildlife, or raising awareness about endangered species.Assessment
💻 Diagnostic questioning is used at the the start of the course. This is where specific questions are used to assess students' prior knowledge, understanding and misconceptions about a topic before instruction begins. 📋Formative (on-going) assessment are conducted throughout the duration of the course. Weekly quizzes are administered in class to assess student understanding of the material. In order to cater to all learner needs, these quizzes range from multiple choice, 'fill in the blank', matching, true or false and written questions.Class Experience

Through multimedia lessons, engaging discussions, weekly quizzes and assigned tasks, learners will explore various animal species, their habitats, behaviors, and adaptations. All of my science classes plan in opportunities for students to develop 'Working Scientifically Skills'. Thes refers to the skills of: 1. Comparative & fair testing 2. Identifying, classifying & grouping 3. Pattern seeking 4. Researching 5. Problem solving 🚨Please note: this course follows the UK Primary National Curriculum and the objectives outlined in their 'Animals Including Humans' science unit.
